There are two reasons why it's a good idea to plan your next golfing holiday in South Africa. The first is the fact that green fees are very reasonable compared to many other parts of the world. The second is far more important. South Africa has lots of fantastic courses, many in absolutely beautiful surroundings. You'll probably want to hang around the Garden Route or the North and South Coasts of KwaZulu Natal if golf is your reason for being rather than just something you do occasionally. And, naturally, there are fantastically scenic clubs and resorts in all major cities and even in the most unlikely small centers.

                        Western Cape Province

Royal Cape Golf Course

This true championship course is situated in Ottery, within the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town approx. 20 km from the City centre and CT International Airport. The history of this beautiful golf course is as follows: In 1885 at a meeting held at the Castle, chaired by Lt. Gen. Sir Henry d'O Torrens, it was decided to introduce the game of golf and starting a club. Thus the Cape Golf Club, the first in SA, was born. The club moved around over the years until 1906 when the official opening took place at its present site. In 1910 the club hosted the SA Open and the SA Amateur Championships for the first time. The Course today is a fine test of golf especially when the southeast wind is blowing. Essentially it is a flat parkland course, well maintained and a pleasure to play with lovely views of the Table Mountain Range. The fairways are narrow and tree-lined, demanding accuracy off the tees. Greens are well bunkered and there is plenty of water on the course.

Mowbray Golf Course

Formed in 1910 this Cape Peninsula championship par 72 golf course which has hosted the SA Open, SA Amateur and the Bell's Open to name but a few offers any golfer a challenging round of golf.

Milnerton Golf Course

A well known links course with natural beauty and incredible views of Table Mountain and Robben Island. Dolphins and whales have been spotted frolicking inshore and many species of birds visit the course. A truly unforgettable experience for golfer and non-golfer alike.

Atlantic Beach Golf Estate

Atlantic Beach Golf Estate - 30 km from the city centre (overlooks the small fisherman's village of Melkbosstrand and the West Coast). Designed a couple of years ago by Johnnic Properties this course runs along the shore of Table Bay, a mere 20 minutes from the vibrant heart of Cape Town. Situated amid undulating, fynbos-covered dunes and set against the world-renowned backdrop of Table Mountain, Atlantic Beach Golf Estate offers a Championship "Links" Course. On a calm day you can play your normal lofted shot or on windy days you can use the firm turf to play low running shots beneath the ocean breeze. The course has been built with a serious commitment to the preservation of the indigenous fauna and flora and the golfer will agree that it is the combination of good golf in unsurpassed natural surroundings that make Atlantic Beach Golf Links a unique golfing experience.

Steenberg Golf Estate

Steenberg (which means mountain of stone) has proved to be one of South Africa's most successful new golf developments. Apart from superb golf there is a 5 star hotel, winery & superb restaurant. From the first day of play, Steenberg has received a deserved reputation for its magnificent greens. The course, designed by Peter Makovitch, is set under beautiful mountain surrounds and meandering through the vineyards of South Africa's oldest wine farm. Nestling under the Constantiaberg Mountains in Constantia valley provides for glorious views of vines, pines, bush and the mountain flora. Peter Matkovitch followed the gentle natural slopes of the estate and created a challenge by introducing large waste bunkers, running creeks, water hazards and excellent greens.

Clovelly Country Club

Tucked away in the lovely Clovelly Valley surrounded by dunes, Clovelly country club is one of the Cape Peninsula's hidden treasures. It is challenging, aesthetically pleasing and immaculately kept course. Clovelly is situated in the Peninsula's narrow strip of land between Fish Hoek and the warm waters of False Bay to the East, and Chapman's Bay and the cold Atlantic Ocean to the west. The course opened in 1924. It has excellent fairways and bent grass greens. It is very rural with lots of trees and a rich birdlife. Mountains and dunes surround the course.

Rondebosch Golf Club

Since 1911 visitors to this Parklands course have not found it to be as forgiving as it looks. The par 4 16th hole is in the view of many, their signature hole. Having avoided the river you're faced with a pair of bunkers guarding the undulating green whilst behind you Table Mountain with its ever-changing mood provides a magnificent backdrop and silent spectator. The greens are in superb condition attracting visitors from far and wide not to mention the PGA Tour, which Rondebosch has hosted for the 5th time.

Metropolitan

Enjoy your golf in the most centrally situated green belt of Cape Town. Adjacent to the V&A Waterfront (5 minute walk!) with magnificent views of Table Mountain and Signal Hill.  Officially a nine-hole course but a variety of greens and tee's resulting in a different challenge for the second round. 2 x 9 holes, Parkland, Par 72 Distance: 5852 m

Westlake Golf Club

Against the amethyst slopes of the Silvermine Mountains lies one of Cape Town's Premier courses, which was established in 1932. This 18-hole par 72 course is covered with lush vegetation with towering trees lining many of the fairways. A very interesting but user-friendly design with quite a few doglegs. Not a long course and if you manage to stay out of the trees you will achieve a good score. From the 1st to the 18th hole, every step affords panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Hosted the 1999 SA Amateur.

Erinvale Golf Estate

Erinvale, nestled at the foothills of the Helderberg and Hottentot Holland Mountains in Somerset West, is one of South Africa's great golfing challenges. Designed by Gary Player and the venue for the 1996 World Cup of Golf, Erinvale's 18 hole, beautifully manicured par 72 championship course, measuring 6 294 meters in length, boast some of the country's most challenging and spectacular golf holes. Depending on the tees used, the course layout is both a championship test and a playable course for the beginner. Erinvale's scenic assets are abundant. A splendid backdrop of mountains seems to virtually surround the Estate. While the front 9 has been built on flat land, the back nine traverses the slopes of the majestic Helderberg, and provides breathtaking view over towards False Bay and the neighboring area. Erinvale has a wonderful selection of testing par 4 holes that could rank with the best in SA. The bent grass greens and bunkering are especially impressive. Some of the greens are enormous, particularly that of the 18th in front of the clubhouse, which measures close to 50 meters from front to back. A number of the deep bunkers have steps leading into them, reminiscent of those in Britain and Ireland.

Stellenbosch Golf Course

Approximately 50km from Cape Town along the well-known Cape Wine Route lie the second oldest town in South Africa. With one of the best 18 hole golf courses in the country we'll make sure that you play this course in the afternoon to appreciate the magnificent views of the setting sun and Table Mountain in the distance. A championship course which has hosted the SA Masters in the past and the SA Open Championship in 1999

Spier Golf Estate

Spier Country Club, situated between Stellenbosch and Somerset, is the only golf club in the world with its 19th hole in a wine cellar. The 6385m layout was designed by leading golf course designer, Peter Matkovich. There are stunningly beautiful mountain views all around the course complemented by the vineyards, orange groves and dams through which the course meanders.

Arabella Golf Estate

The Arabella Estate, originally known as "Laughing Waters", began as a barley farm and is an area designated a "World Biosphere", and earmarked to become a "World Heritage" site. Maintaining a balance between man and nature was foremost in the development of the Championship Golf Course on the "Beautiful Land", with its rolling, undulating terrain. The course was completed during December 1999 and Peter Matkovich has ensured the 18 holes encompass the Mountain backdrops, lagoon frontage and forests on the estate. These provide for links, parkland and coastal aspects, while the individual fairways provide natural corridors as vantage points to savor nature's true beauty. The challenge of finding the wide fairways is set by hungry bunkers, thirsty water hazards and lagoon, and emphasized by the magnificent "dominant bent grass" greens.

Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Estate

A challenging game of golf awaits even the most proficient golfer at Fancourt situated along the Garden Route. One has the choice of playing 4 golf courses designed by golfing great Gary Player. These courses are in a class of their own and every golfer is compelled to improve his technique and strategy. Fancourt will host the 2003 Presidents Cup and is Southern Africa's only member of the prestigious 'Great Golf Resorts of the World' Association.

Knysna Golf Club

Knysna Golf Club is probably the only golf course in South Africa that can boast holes that are below sea level. When the course floods it is possible to canoe down the fairway on the 465-meter par five 4th hole. Because it is situated close to the Knysna Heads as well as the town's well known lagoon, one of the great delights of the club is to sit under the trees outside HilsenHouse. Which is the half way tea house. The chances are pretty good that you will see the richly colored Knysna Lourie, undoubtedly one of South Africa's most beautiful birds.

George Golf Club

The setting is the exquisite Garden Route, with the Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop. With 18 championship holes on a top-quality course, it is not surprising that so many good things have been said about this golf club. The region enjoys abundant rain, good soils and many beautiful trees and shrubs have been planted and are flourishing on the course. Today, the area off the fairways is heavily wooded and the layout remains lush and green throughout the year.

Hermanus Golf Club

Located just 120 Kilometers from Cape Town at the southern tip of Africa, the Hermanus Golf Club offers the keen golfer 18 incredible holes of golf. The Hermanus Golf Club has become one of the most popular golf courses in the country - a definite 'must play' course. The Hermanus Golf Club is a private course, offering privacy to the members, yet accessibility to the public.

Mossel Bay Golf Club

The 18-hole links golf course, established as far back as 1905, has been extensively upgraded and remodeled by the developers of the Mossel Bay Country Estate. The golf course is situated above a peninsula that juts out into the Indian Ocean and is surrounded by the town on the north and splendid seascapes to the south. The terrain is densely vegetated and is undulating. The climate is Mediterranean. Bent grass greens with Kikuyu tees and fairways are a mixture of Cynoden and Kikuyu. The course can be described as relatively short but with large undulating greens. There are 90 odd pot bunkers.

Goose Valley Golf Club

This superb nine-hole course was designed by Gary Player around his holiday home in Plettenberg Bay. The course is a splendid layout with immaculate fairways and first-class greens to compliment the visual splendor of the natural environment. An added bonus, is the off course experience you will receive in the clubhouse, both from management and catering staff. Watch out for the signboards advising you that this is a protected nature reserve containing snakes and golf balls straying off the designated golf course areas are to be declared lost!

Sparrebosch Golf Club

This golf estate is situated on the rolling hills between the Knysna lagoon and the rocky cliffs of the Indian Ocean. The area known as the East Heads has become the site of 18 spectacular championship holes of golf and 250 hectares of well-planned residential properties and natural fynbos communities. The Scottish "links-style" course; designed by Ronald Fream and David Dale of Golfpan in California, features cool-season grasses and five different tee placements to challenge and reward all golfers.

                        Eastern Cape Province

Humewood Golf Club

The Humewood Golf Course is situated in the city of Port Elizabeth and is a unique old-fashioned links course. Rated as the third best golf course in Southern Africa, the great Bobby Locke once remarked that if the British Open were to be held outside the British Isles, then Humewood would be the ideal venue. After your round relax in the 19th hole with awesome views overlooking the course and out to sea.

Fish River Sun Golf Course

Fish River is a good golfing layout, albeit more than a bit windblown at times during the year, and an ideal stopover between East London and Port Elizabeth. Close to the beach, but separated by high dunes, on a nice calm day it's a gem to play. It's always had a reputation as one of the best-conditioned courses in the region. The Old Woman's River runs through the middle of the course, and has to be carried twice, once with the tee shot on No.13, coming back with an approach to the 16th. One of the feature holes at Fish River is the 12th, a long par-5 that curves around a bend in the river.

Royal Port Alfred Golf Club

Royal Port Alfred Golf Club is as charming and old-fashioned, as you will find in South Africa, very much a product of the early years of the century. However, it's too special to change, and should be always preserved exactly as it is. Many of the holes are quirky, but that simply adds to the intrigue, forcing you to play unconventional shots, and there's fun to be had here. It is built on rolling hills and sand dunes with views over the Indian Ocean, and each hole is individually named, sometimes quite aptly in the case of Whale's back, the Punch Bowl and Hippo's bath. The clubhouse has a grand view out over the course and the sea, and there's an equally good vista from the high top tee on Greenmantle, the 12th.

East London Golf Club

The East London Golf Club, skillfully fashioned out of dense coastal bush, hills and dunes, just a few meters away from the warm water of the Indian Ocean, has hosted six South African Opens, which confirms the high esteem in which the course is held. There are breathtaking views of the sea at several points on the course and Nahoon Reef, a world-famous surfing spot, is close to the north-east corner of East Bank. A golfer must contend with steep climbs up and down the dunes as he strolls along the green fairways. More often than not, he or she will have to contend with a fierce wind whistling through the valleys.

                        Kwazulu Natal Province

Zimbali Golf Course

The Golf Course at Zimbali is the first in Africa to be designed by world-class designer and former British and South African Open Champion. Situated in a unique coastal forest reserve on the Kwazulu Natal's Dolphin Coast, these shores are washed by the warm Indian Ocean and covered with lush vegetation. An 18-hole par 72-championship golf course offers even the higher handicappers a competitive game of golf.

San Lameer Golf Course

Situated on the KwaZulu Natal south coast this majestic 18-hole championship golf course will ensure the enthusiastic golfer an experience to remember. It is a course that not only tests your playing ability but also your mental ability. With four different tee positions the degree of difficulty allow for major tournaments such as the SA Masters as well as corporate days, even the average weekend golfer will find the course quite competitive.

Prince's Grant Golf Course

Situated on the KwaZulu Natal north coast about 80km from Durban. In the tradition of the links golf courses of old Scotland, Prince's Grant Golf Estate offers a unique experience to any golfer. This course offers a great variety of holes found amongst dunes, valleys, streams, and the lagoon. The clubhouse and lodge are a rare example of authentic colonial architecture and from the 19th hole, Mulligan's Bar offers panoramic views of the course.

Selbourne Golf Club

The South African equivalent to Augusta National in Georgia, USA. Since it's completion in 1987, the golf course has matured into one of the most aesthetically attractive in South Africa. It is a challenging test of golf with water features coming into play on just about every hole and with the Indian Ocean as a spectacular backdrop. Selbourne has developed an excellent reputation amongst the overseas golfing fraternity both for its challenge and for the high standard at which it is maintained.

Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate I & II

Nestled amongst the rolling hills of Natal's Dolphin Coast these outstanding golf courses offer 360 degrees of spectacular scenery. Designed to USGA specifications it provides an interesting layout offering interesting water features, superb greens and unforgiving rough. These courses demand accuracy and are a true test of target golf. At Mount Edgecombe II you have the only golf course in the country with Royal Blue Grass from tee to green. A serious golfer can test his skills around these golf courses and the occasional golfer will thoroughly enjoy his round.

Durban Country Club

The Durban Country Club golf course is still today - despite the serious competition in George and Sun City - the best golf course in South Africa. No other golf club has hosted the South African Open and other important tournaments as often as Durban. The course lies directly at the beach of the Indian Ocean and has been masterly fashioned into the dunes. It was opened in 1922 and updated 1959. Many of the holes are positively difficult. The 12th with its steeply raised green is also called the Prince of Wales hole. The Prince, who played here in 1924, needed 17 strokes, until the ball was eventually in the hole.

Wild Coast Sun Country Club

This championship course hosts a number of high profile tournaments every year. With the Indian Ocean as a backdrop, American golf course architect, Robert Trent Jones Jnr, has created a most dramatic golfing experience along the cliffside coastline. Testament to the high regard this golf course is held in, is the fact that since the introduction of the ranking of South Africa's best golf courses the Wild Coast Sun course has never dropped out of the top ten.

Southbroom

Described as one of the finest golf courses to be found anywhere, Southbroom Golf Course has a tight layout through lush coastal bush, with spectacular sea views. Water comes into play at many of the holes and with newly constructed greens; the course has an increased difficulty factor. Playing this course is a truly African experience, as there are always monkeys and indigenous birds to be seen.

Drakensberg

Watercolor sunrises & fiery mountain sunsets! Champagne Sports Resort is an award winning conference & golf resort that offers the ultimate "berg experience in a congenial country club setting.

                            Northwest Province

Gary Player Country Club

Gary Player designed a course which, due to the variety of tee and pin positions can be set up to suit the handicap player as well as the professional. Combine the length of the course from the back tees with difficult pin positions and the tough kikuyu grass and the heat inside the "volcano", especially if grown to 4-6 inches around narrow fairways, and the course can become virtually unplayable - even for professionals. In past Million Dollar Challenges we've seen course records of 63 but we've also seen pro's shoot 300 over 4 days. There is no easy nine on this course. As the course winds through the valley you never have a level lie on the fairways and missing the fairways are murder. By the time you reach the green you need to be able to relax - but you can't - the greens are slick, sloping and sickening.

Lost City Golf Course

The Lost City Golf Course lies within the Sun City entertainment complex in the semi-desert of the North-West Province of South Africa. It was designed - like the neighboring Gary Player Country Club - by South Africa's grand master of golf Gary Player. The Lost City Golf Course is long, difficult and beautiful and belongs to the best in the world. The course shows many water hazards, a lake among them. The most dangerous water hazard lies at hole 13 (directly at the green), because here a great number of crocodiles are romping about, some more than two meters long, it is not advisable to fish golf balls out of the water.

                            Gauteng Province

Silver Lakes

Silver Lakes Country Club is part of an upmarket residential estate which is situated in genuine Bushveld country, 20 kilometers to the east of Pretoria. As the name of the club implies, there is an abundance of lakes and attractive water features running through this spectacular course. Water, in fact, comes into play on 10 of the 18 holes and can be a source of extreme frustration to the duffer. On the other hand, for the more accomplished golfer, the hazards will instead be viewed as part of an absorbing challenge on a high-quality golf course.

Dainfern

Dainfern championship 18-hole golf course was designed by Gary Player. It offers a first class golfing experience. The course opened for play in 1991. It is located on the old Fourways golf course site. The only hole still in use from the original course is the 17th- Par 5, across the water twice. The golfing challenge on the Par 72 golf course is centered around the meandering Jukskei river and along the undulating terrain. It is truly a spectacular layout. The river is in play on 7 holes. The rolling terrain provides challenging play and affords breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The arrays of well-manicured bunkers are another challenging aspect of the course. Dams, water features, natural rocky outcrops, weeping willows as well as abundant bird life provide a tranquil country ambience. The manicured greens, immaculate fairways, carefully crafted water features and meticulous landscaping is of the highest possible standard.

Houghton

Centrally situated in Johannesburg's wealthy suburb of the same name, the Houghton course has hosted no fewer than eight South African Opens since the Second World War. Gary Player won three of his 13 South African Opens while Ernie Else set a 15-under-par record score of 273 here in the same tournament in 1993, his victory catapulting him into the international limelight. Houghton received a rare honor in February 1995, when it was chosen to host the inaugural Alfred Dunhill Challenge between southern Africa and Australasia, the southern hemisphere's answer to the Ryder Cup. At 6 434 meters, Houghton is not an overly long course by highveld standards, as the ball flies a long way in Johannesburg's rarefied atmosphere. Some exciting tee shots and approaches are required if you are attempting to master the holes.

Pecanwood

Overlooking the Hartebeespoort Dam and the oldest reported mountain range in the world, The Magaliesberg Mountains, Pecanwood is one of the latest and greatest 18 hole courses to be added to South Africa's list. Opened by Jack Nicklaus on 22 August 1998, it features holes similar to the finest holes in America including the 18th from Pebble Beach. Pecanwood can be placed in the top drawer of all golfing experiences.

Randpark

Randpark, with 2 800 members, is the biggest golf club in the southern hemisphere. It comprises two 18-hole championship courses, a magnificent clubhouse and one of South Africa's best pro shops. The showpiece course is the 6 386-metre par-72 Randpark layout that was chosen to host the 1995 Philips South African Open won by Retief Goosen. Right next door is leafy Windsor, a much-loved shorter course of 6 171 meters, not as demanding as its neighbor and regarded as fun to play by the members.

Roodepoort Country Club

Roodepoort Country Club was designed by Gary Player and Ron Kirby and is renowned for its large, undulating Bent grass greens with subtle slopes. It is a well bunkered, inland links course with well defined fairways - a great test of golfing ability for both high and low handicap golfers.

Woodhill

The Woodhill Residential Estate and Country Club boasts a challenging 18 hole Championship Golf Course designed by Peter Matcovich. The quality of the fairways, bunkers and greens is so consistent that it is difficult to choose a favorite hole. The entire course is memorable as it meanders around the slopes of the hill. The green fairways, man-made lakes and lush indigenous vegetation provide for a spectacular setting.

Pretoria Country Club

The Pretoria Country Club is a premier golf destination and boasts a course recognized as being amongst the top fifty in the country. It is set against a backdrop of mature trees, offering members a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city. The back nine, which is noted for its big and beautiful willow trees, is particularly challenging with the 13th (400 meters) and the 15th (380 meters) both somewhat punishing par-fours where water is in play with both the tee shot as well as the approach shot. A sophisticated irrigation system helps to keep the course beautifully green and in immaculate condition for most of the year, and the members claim that their course is the best in the city should be taken seriously. Set in the beautiful, jacaranda-lined upmarket suburb of Waterkloof, the course is a delight to play.

Glendower Country Club

A well designed 6 770m course, situated against a tree-covered slope. The fairways are excellent, featuring numerous hazards and narrowing at the greens. Standard and par 72. The course opened in 1937 and has superb kikuyu fairways and excellent greens. There are 85 bunkers and water comes into play on 11 of the holes. It is a heavily wooded, parkland course.

Royal Johannesburg

The World Atlas of Golf, which lists the great courses and how they are played, features just two South African clubs on its hallowed pages. One is Durban Country Club and the other is Royal Johannesburg, which was established more than 100 years ago. It was initially known only as Johannesburg Golf Club. The club was granted the 'Royal' prefix by King George V in 1931, two years before a second 18-hole course - now the more famous East layout - was built alongside the existing West course. The East course was completed in 1935 and is a lasting monument to the high-quality work don by Robert Grimsdell. He was perhaps South Africa's greatest golf architect and was the resident professional and green keeper at 'Royal' for more than 20 years. Since the Second World War, the East course was hosted seven South African Opens, three of which were won by Gary Player (in 1972, 1977 and 1981), as well as the second British Commonwealth Tournament in 1959.

Wanderers Country Club

This verdant and challenging 18-hole parkland course next to the Wanderers test cricket ground was host to the South African PGA for many years, before a new sponsor chose a new venue. In a recent survey, Complete Golfer magazine rated Wanderers' congenial 19th hole as the best in the country.

Maccauvlei

Maccauvlei Golf Club is situated on the banks of the Vaal River. It boasts the country's biggest bunker. The 6 364-metre layout was fashioned out of a desolate tract of land consisting of scrub, dune and sand, which is so typical of the terrain always associated with a links-type course. Maccauvlei has as many as 90 bunkers, making the sand-wedge an important weapon for golfers tackling this par-72 layout. The biggest bunker of all, though, is on the 386-metre par-four 17th, where the tee shot must be hit short of the hazard, leaving an intimidating approach across this seemingly never-ending expanse of sandy waste that eats up one-third of the fairway.

                        Mpumalanga Province

White River Country Club

Designed by Gary Player some 25 years ago as a 9 hole course, White River Golf Course has been upgraded to its current 18 hole status and offers: 6036 meter par 71 course.  Parkland course - interesting water features on nine of the holes provide a unique atmosphere to the surroundings.  Two of the par-5 holes have been compared with Augusta National for their beauty, challenge and abundance of water.

Skukuza

Here is a first for South Africa and the world - a unique opportunity for golfing enthusiasts within one of the world's greatest conservation establishments. The Skukuza Golf Course is designed for all levels of golfers.  The course is a Par 72, 5 950m (6 450 yards) for men and 5 059m (5 480 yards) for women of sheer pleasure and challenge. Since the course is not fenced-in, uninvited spectators are a common sight. While the graceful and curious giraffe may stop by to thoroughly analyze the arc of your swing, the grazing impalas and warthogs may just not pay you any attention at all. The birds in the nearby trees and the spectacular view of Lake Panic should not lull you into complacency, however. Any wayward shots are severely punishable with a play in the rough where one may have to face the true inhabitants of the park.

Graceland

The flat savannahs of Mpumalanga do not at first glance suggest that they are suitable for the building of a golf course, but as one of the world's leading designers, Gary Player made creative use of what natural features were available and the results are a highly challenging course at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club. The front and back nines of Graceland Country Club follow paths along opposite sides of natural donga's. The course features a mixture of significant elevation changes, water hazards, rolling fairways, and strategically placed bunkering.

Sabie River

The kikuyu fairways are well knitted throughout the year. There are bayview grass greens and five dams on the course; water comes into play on 14 holes; silicon sand bunkers guard most of the greens. There are plenty of existing trees, and many more have been planted recently. The rough is short. The course is fairly hilly and very scenic which can be made extremely challenging or fairly forgiving by switching tees and pin placements.

Leopard Creek

Amongst all South Africa's fine and remarkable golf courses, the 18 holes of the Leopard Creek championship golf course must certainly be ranked as the biggest and brightest diamond of them all. Situated inside a private game reserve, the natural surroundings of this course engrave themselves in the memories of all players while the golf course itself tests and provides extreme enjoyment to all golfers.

                        Limpopo (Northern) Province

Hans Merensky Golf Estate

The Hans Merensky Golf Estate is located in the warm heart of the Valley of the Elephants. The Estate offers the discerning tourist a unique combination of first class sporting facilities and luxury accommodation all within a stone's throw of one of the largest game reserves in Africa.

                        Northern Cape Province

Sishen

The course has excellent fairways and greens and is like an oasis in this dry region. Driving range, practice tee and halfway house. The golf club is part of a sporting and recreation club, with the main clubhouse and its restaurant situated only about 150 meters away from the golf course.

                            Freestate Province

Schoeman Park Golf Club

The course is noted for its tall trees which come into play on many of the holes, including the 2nd which is a shortish par-four where the drive must be steered through a narrow avenue of foliage. The 4th hole, stroke two on the card, is a tough 415-metre par-four with out -of-bounds on the right and thick, wiry rough to contend with. The next hole is a splendid par-five of 501 meters with a strategically placed water hazard crossing the fairway about 120 meters from the green. On the inward loop, the 395-metre dogleg par-four 13th stands out, as out-of-bounds on the right and the tall trees which are on either side of the fairway mean that accuracy off the tee is vital. The drive must again be precise at the 417-metre par-four 16th which bends almost 90 degrees to the right. The 18th curves to the left and there is plenty of rough and trees both on the left and on the right of the fairway.
